Wines of Slovenia - Intense course

This is advanced course. WSET Level 2 in Wines or similar is recommended or good basic knowledge about winegrowing, winemaking and wine tasting.

You will learn about three wine countries and 9 wine-growing regions, their geographical characteristics and how the latter influence the style of wines in the region.
The most important local and international grape varieties of Slovenia and their characteristics will be presented.
You will understand most of the terms you encounter on a bottle of Slovenian wine such as the difference between "kakovostno vino", "vrhunsko vino" "vino PTP" (Cviček PTP, Teran PTP). You will taste and be able to describe the local and regional varieties such as Welschriesling, Šipon (Furmint), Rebula, Malvasia Istriana, Sauvignon Vert, Zelen, Refošk (Refosco), Modra Frankinja (Blaufränkisch), Žametovka as well as the most important international grape varieties: Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir. We will explain their importance and styles in different wine districts.
"WSET Level 2 in Wines Systematic Approach to Tasting ©" will be used when describing the wines. You will taste 24 reference Slovenian wines!
